About Me

I am an Assistant Research Professor with the Center for Advanced Studies in Adaptive Systems (CASAS) at Washington State University. I received my Ph.D. in 2011 from WSU under the guidance of Diane J. Cook. I received my Master of Computer Science from Oregon Health and Sciences University in 2006 and my Bachelors of Electrical Engineering from The University of Portland in 2001.

Research

My research interests include:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Smart Homes
  • Gerontechnology
  • Evolutionary Computing
  • Adaptive Systems

These fields have been embodied in the use of smart environments to deliver tools to help older adults live in their homes longer. By supporting the "aging in place" philosophy of elder care, my research has found a useful place in the future of healthcare for older adults.

To date, my graduate and continued research has taken place as part of CASAS. This research group explores using smart homes and ubiquitious computing technologies for a wide range of applications. We have published research on activity detection, smart home engineering, cognitive metrics, behaviometrics and several other topics since our inception in 2006.
