As you study this week's material, please ponder the following discussion questions. Post your responses in the appropriate threads in WebCT.
Given the ALVIS case study presented in class, are you sold on the idea of iterative, user-centered design? Can it really make a difference? Is it worth the time?
Do you believe that the version of ALVIS that evolved out of the fourth iteration of the design process is truly more usable than the original prototype? Why or why not?
With your project group, formulate one or more research questions that could lead to an experiment that tests some aspect of your design. What are the questions? What are hypotheses you have regarding these questions? Sketch out an experimental design to test those hypotheses. Would it be within-subject or between-subjects? Why?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of within-subjects vs. between-subjects designs?
What are order effects, and how can you deal with them in an experiment?
