Point recovery for exam 1

Because the class as a whole did so poorly on Exam1 I am offering this opportunity to make up some of your lost points.
Due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, October 12

Important: DO NOT WRITE ANYTHING ON THE EXAM ITSELF
THIS IS TO BE YOUR OWN WORK; YOU MAY NOT COLLABORATE IN ANY WAY WITH OTHERS; if you have questions, confusions, etc. feel free to visit me during office hours this week (today and tomorrow) or email me.

On separate paper, for each problem on which you lost points,

  1. Clearly identify by problem number and subproblem letter what you are talking about. Please put the problems in the same order as on the exam.
  2. Describe why you got the problem wrong: suggested reasons to consider: didn't read the question carefully/misread the question, didn't understand the question, didn't understand the material to which the problem pertained, didn't think through the details, didn't write what I intended, didn't have time, etc. These are just some suggestions. I want you to think carefully about these so that you can improve your performance on later exams.
  3. Provide a correct solution to the problem, including any requested "show your work" or explanations,
Do not include problems for which you got full credit.

What to turn in: your new work (with your name on the top sheet) with the original, unaltered exam stapled below it. That is, your new work goes on top and the exam itself goes on the bottom.

What you get: up to half the points that you missed on the exam.
