Distributed Microgrid Control

In this project, a robust distributed control algorithm will be developed for islanded industrial microgrids. As inverter-based distributed resources become more common in distribution systems it becomes possible for essential loads to be serviced even when the connection to the bulk grid is lost. However, coordinating multiple DERs to serve loads while maintaining acceptable voltage and frequency profiles without overloading any one DER is still an outstanding problem. Dual optimization methods have been applied successfully to grid-connecting inverter systems to provide voltage support in distribution systems. This work seeks to apply dual optimization methods to control and optimize grid-forming inverters as well.
